Engagement Muhurat October 2026 – Auspicious Dates & Timings

Engagement-Muhurat-October-2026--Auspicious-Dates-Timings

The engagement ceremony is one of the most significant pre-wedding customs in the Hindu community as it strengthens the bond between both families and marks the official announcement of the marriage of the couple.

The wedding ceremony follows a different set of astrological rules as compared to the engagement ceremony and thus requires a complete Panchang analysis along with a check for seasonal limitations like Chaturmas.

In October 2026, there will be many engagement muhurats; however, care should be taken to avoid the wrong timings.

October 2026: A Month of Limited Engagement Muhurats

The month of October in the year 2026 will be a period of Chaturmas, a time that runs from July to October each year, during which the God Vishnu is in a state of sleep (Yoga Nidra) and the protective energy of the preserver is said to be inactive. Also, traditionally it is said that there are no good moments for weddings during this time.

However, the engagement situation is a little more flexible during this period. Panchangs allow engagement ceremonies to take place during the period of Chaturmas as long as the lunar day, Nakshatra, and Yoga are auspicious.

According to different sources, there are only 2 auspicious engagement dates in October 2026 for cities such as Hyderabad and Delhi.

However, there are also 29 days to avoid for engagement purposes. Another source claims there are 9 possible days for sagai in October 2026—October 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 29, and 30.

Planetary Positions in October 2026

The reason behind the success of some dates over others can be found in the knowledge of where planets are located.

The Sun is in Libra, which means that it will transform its position from 7°39′ at the beginning of October to about 15° at the end. Libra is all about fairness and partnership; therefore, it helps you choose relationship commitments.

The Moon moves from one zodiac sign to another every 2-3 days, thus changing the mood of different days.

Venus is moving through Leo, leaving it for Virgo later in October. Venus is the planet of love and marriage, which is why it is important to choose the proper time for engagements. If Venus is combust, it will greatly diminish its influences on relationships. The square aspect with Mars will be active on October 15, and it is rather difficult; better to refrain from getting engaged on this day.

Jupiter is in Virgo throughout the whole month, contributing to the process of committing. Jupiter in Virgo opens up new opportunities for you in terms of creative work and spirituality.

For the first part of October, Mercury is retrograde (R). For formal pledges and legal agreements, Mercury retrograde is typically avoided. Don’t finalize engagement ceremonies until October 9–10, when Mercury turns direct.

Key Astrological Considerations

🠖 Abhijit Muhurat is a Universal Auspicious Period

Abhijit Muhurat is a lucky midday period in India taking place around 11:43 AM to 12:29 PM (IST) on most days of the month of October in 2026. This is considered to be the time for starting new journeys and relationships. The dates falling under October 2026 include October 17, 18, 21, and 24 for this lucky midday window.

🠖 Avoid Rahu Kaal, Gulika Kaal, and Yamaganda

These are times that are considered unlucky, and new ventures shouldn’t be performed during this time. For instance, on October 22, Rahu Kaal is going to take place from 1:31 PM to 2:56 PM, and on October 28, the Rahu Kaal is from 12:06 PM to 1:29 PM. Make sure to check these timings in the Panchang for your particular city.

🠖 Bhadra (Vishti Karana)

Bhadra is a time considered to be unlucky and inappropriate for any kind of new service. On October 23, Bhadra is active, thus making this date not an ideal date for an engagement, even though some sources mention it as an auspicious time. You will need to check the timings for Bhadra in your local Panchang.

🠖 Muhurtham that is free of Panchaka dosha

Panchaka is a five-day span that is considered an unlucky time for ceremonies or marriages. Panchaka Rahitam Muhurtham is the time period that is free from Panchaka dosha. For the month of October 2026, October 25 has been identified as a date of Panchaka Rahitam Muhurtham and is therefore favourable.

Dates to Avoid

October 15 – Venus squares Mars on this day, creating tension in relationships.

October 24 – Despite being listed as auspicious by some sources, Bhadra (Vishti Karana) is active on this day. Avoid unless your pandit confirms otherwise.

Any date during Rahu Kaal – Always avoid the daily inauspicious windows specific to your city.

Conclusion

In October 2026, there are some limited but favorable engagement dates. Depending on the source, October has only two to nine good engagement days, which requires good planning. The best days of engagement are October 11 (Chitra Nakshatra, Shukla Pratipada) and October 12 (Svati Nakshatra, Shukla Dwitiya).

Also, the dates October 17 and 18 are available with a good Abhijit Muhurat around midday, and October 25 is a good Panchaka Rahitam date.

Avoid Rahu Kaal, Gulika Kaal, and Yamaganda. Check the local Panchang for timings in your area. Consult a professional astrologer to know the right engagement date as per Hindu astrology, based on the couple’s horoscopes.
